Philip F. Deaver

Philip F. Deaver is the thirteenth winner of the Flannery O’Connor Award. He has held fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and Bread Loaf. His short fiction has appeared in Prize Stories: The O. Henry Awards and has been recognized in Best American Short Stories and the Pushcart anthologies. His poems are collected in How Men Pray (Anhinga Press). In recent years, he has also published memoir and creative nonfiction in literary magazines and edited a book of creative nonfiction essays on baseball, entitled Scoring from Second: Writers on Baseball (University of Nebraska Press). He is a professor of English and permanent writer-in-residence at Rollins College, Winter Park, Florida, and teaches on the fiction faculty in the Spalding University brief residency MFA program in Louisville, Kentucky.
