David Shields

David Shields is the author of 10 books, including Reality Hunger: A Manifesto; The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead, a New York Times bestseller; and Black Planet, which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. The recipient of a Guggenheim fellowship and two NEA fellowships, Shields is a professor in the English department at the University of Washington and a member of the faculty in Warren Wilson College's low-residency MFA Program. His next book is titled The Trouble with Men: Reflections on Sex, Love, Marriage, Porn, and Power and is due out Februrary 2019. His work has been translated into a dozen languages.
