Carolyn Forché

Carolyn Forché is a poet, translator and editor of the groundbreaking anthology, “Against Forgetting: Twentieth-Century Poetry of Witness,” collecting the work of poets who endured conditions of extremity during the past century. Her poetry books include “Gathering the Tribes,” “The Country Between Us,” “The Angel of History” and “Blue Hour.” A human rights activist for over 30 years, he was presented with the Edita and Ira Morris Hiroshima Foundation Award for Peace and Culture in 1998 in Stockholm for her work on behalf of human rights and the preservation of memory and culture. She has received fellowships from The John Simon Guggenheim Foundation, The Lannan Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts, and has taught poetry and literature for 35 years. She holds the Lannan Chair of Poetry at Georgetown University, where he also directs The Lannan Center for Poetics and Social Practice.
