You want to do it.  You mean to do it.  You’re going to do it, really…a bit later.  It’s the summer, after all, and you’ve got the time.  But somehow that writing you’ve been meaning to get around to just never seems to happen.  Creative Nonfiction’s summer boot camp is a 4-week course to ensure that you will get around to that summer writing, by providing firm deadlines, daily writing exercises, and weekly feedback.  Along the way you’ll also develop the habit of writing regularly, which will serve you well all year long.  At the end of 4 weeks, if you’ve completed the minimum number of assignments, you’ll have an essay of between 3,600 and 6,000 words, or at least a dozen passages to use as starting points for future essays (or some combination of the two).

Week 1: Generating ideas—what can I write about?
Week 2: Your writing life—creating a schedule and a support network
Week 3: Overcoming writer’s block
Week 4: Stretching your limits
Week 5: Review, re-mix, revise

* US residents will receive a complimentary 4-issue subscription to Creative Nonfiction with their online class registration (or a 4-issue extension to their existing subscription). Students outside the US can receive a free copy of the ebook Creating Nonfiction, or can choose to receive a 4-issue print subscription for the cost of shipping fees. We regret that we are not able to supply complimentary digital subscriptions for international students at this time.

If you are an international student who would like a print subscription instead of an ebook, please contact Matt Spindler at spindler@creativenonfiction.org after you register.
